Master of Signals Carina Ventana served as Legate Presca’s principal communications officer and one of her most trusted advisors throughout the latter campaigns of the Great Crusade and the Shadow Crusade. The degree of understanding between the two officers was remarked upon by their contemporaries, some of whom suggested that Ventana alone enjoyed the Legate’s personal confidence. Neither officer is recorded as having acknowledged such speculation, although their long association and the exceptional autonomy granted to Ventana suggest a relationship extending well beyond the ordinary requirements of military command.
