Martian Terrain and Astartes Base

This table has been a long time in the making! But from as soon as I started playing the Horus Heresy, I knew I wanted a dedicated table. And not just a neoprene mat and terrain, but a table with actual texture and topography. I debated early on about making this in three sections to make it easier to take in and out, but in the end, I decided the unblemished terrain was the vision, and I ended up making this whole terrain surface inset enough into the table that I can put a cover over top of it to get a flat surface for other games.

The table is primarily carved XPS foam, some 3D-printed details such as the craters, and then things like flexible grout mix, PVA, IPA, sand, and literal gravel and dirt from my yard (sanitized). It was a fun and sort of intuitive process of feeling my way through various mistakes as I mixed things in different ratios in a 5-gallon bucket, which was a great learning experience.
